Star actor and singer Billy Porter turned heads as he strutted the Oscars 2019 red carpet. Defying fashion norms, Porter who was joined on the red carpet by his husband Adam Smith sported a velvet tuxedo jacket that extends into a flowing gown designed by Christian Siriano for the 91st Academy Awards, expertly mixing femininity and masculinity in a breath-taking design.

The outfit included a sharply tailored tuxedo jacket worn over a full-skirted strapless velvet gown while he donned the look with a crisp white shirt with ruffled cuffs and a classic bow tie. Speaking to Vogue on his choice for this outfit, he said,”I’ve always been inspired by fashion. My grandmother, my mom—they were always stylish. I grew up loving fashion, but there was a limit to the ways in which I could express myself. When you’re black and you’re gay, one’s masculinity is in question.”
